A Hero Product Is the One You Would Repack
The hero is not the most impressive bottle. It is the one that goes back in the bag.

Hero is a marketing word for the bottle with the campaign. In a real routine it means something plainer. If you were leaving tomorrow with a small bag, which products would you be annoyed to forget. Those are the heroes. They are usually the cleanser you trust and the cream that keeps you comfortable. Sometimes a sunscreen. Rarely the treatment you use twice a month and describe with the most adjectives.
The repack test cleans up a shelf quickly. Anything you would cheerfully leave behind is not holding the routine together. It can stay for a specific night, or it can go. A serum you would repack has earned the word hero because your skin notices its absence, not because a caption said so. Oils, creams, and actives do not get a pass for being expensive.
Travel is the honest version of editing. Do it at home on a Sunday if you are not going anywhere. Put the repack pile on the counter and use only that for a week. If the face is fine, the other bottles were scenery. Scenery is allowed. It is not a hero.
